User Insights Overview

The User Insights tool allows you to query groups of users who performed any sequence of events and filter them using event properties or user properties. In User Insights, the full list of users associated with the designated events will be displayed alongside their user properties. Click on any user to view their user profile and event stream.

The User Insights Tool is most commonly used to:

  1. Identify users who have common behavior patterns
  2. View individual user profiles and activity history
  3. QA tagging and tracking
  4. Export users to action via marketing automation or email platforms

Begin an Analysis

In User Insights, each row in the query builder represents a step in a user's journey. Users who completed all events in sequence will appear in the results. To begin building a User Insights sequence, drag in an event into the query builder. Continue adding events until all desired behaviors are represented in the query.

Re-Ordering Rows

To be included in a User Insights list, users must have completed the events in the query builder in the specified order. To re-order the event sequence, click and drag a row in the query builder into the desired position in the sequence.

"By" Clauses in User Insights

"By" clauses, which break out an event by all values of the selected user or event property, are not available in the User Insights tool. Instead, use "Where" clauses to define additional parameters of user lists.

For example, instead of using a "By" clause to break out the event "Subscribe" by all AB Testing groups, use a "Where" clause to select which AB Testing group you want represented in the resulting user list.

If a property is selected by being double clicked or dragged and dropped into the chart area, it will apply across all query rows. To apply the property only to a specific query row, drag it into the "Where" dropzone in that row.

Searching Results

Search for users and their user properties by any matching value by using the search box in the upper right corner of the chart window.
